Monday, November 2 - Friday, November 6

Friday
At the beginning of the class, time was provided for a trip to the school library to get a new book for silent reading. For the remainder of the class we looked at information about info-graphics in preparation for producing one related to the story Grateful. We also did some brainstorming about how to do research:
1. Figure out your topic and come up with a strong inquiry question.
2. Assess some sources.
3. Gather information: 5Ws + H - take notes using the Cornell method.

AND we brainstormed how to decide whether a web site has credible (reliable) information.
1. Author - if name is mentioned, that is a good sign.
2, Date - is the information recent? current?
3. Sources - credible websites should cite the source of the information.
4. Domain - .edu  .gov  are the most reliable. Other domains such as .org  .com  . net  can be bought and used by anyone.
5. Site design - this is really personal taste, but a well-designed site may be more reliable.
6. Writing style - poor spelling and grammar are indicators that a site may not be credible.
Your task on the weekend is to come up with a good acronym to help us remember the tips for credible sites.
Thursday
Today we read the short story Grateful and did a prediction/question activity as I read the story.
I was surprised that the fact that the girl in the car was a ghost caught so many people off guard!

Wednesday
The novel autographs were due today. We spent time peer editing them for quality. The final version is due on Friday. Using Today's Meet, we tried some Hink Pinks - you guys need more practice!
Tuesday
Today we wrapped up the beaded timeline work with brief presentations from everyone. We also discussed our next BIG IDEA question for Social Studies: Aboriginal populations lived in North America before any other and greatly outnumbered early European settlers. Why then are we not now living according to Aboriginal laws, following Aboriginal spiritual practices, living in dwellings that are more reflective of Aboriginal shelters?
Monday
At the beginning of the class I collected the poem/song analysis. Next we marked the test from last week and discussed due dates for end of term.
Bead timeline is due tomorrow.
Novel autograph for term 1 is due Wednesday.
